I am the founder and creator of the International Wrestling Club of Southwest Detroit and the first-ever Head Wrestling Coach at Cesar Chavez Academy High School in Southwest Detroit. One of my former Boys & Girls Club wrestlers is now the head coach at Cesar Chavez and has successfully carried on where I left off.
I Have been coaching since I graduated from Cherry Hill high school in 1984. The sport has taken me to some exciting places. I’ve been to Puerto Rico 5 times for tournaments, Columbus Ohio numerous times for the Ohio State Fair; I’ve traveled to Germany, Holland, and Amsterdam, and to the Dominican Republic for training sessions, in addition to cultural exchanges we’ve held here in Detroit.
Currently, I have third-generation wrestlers and more coming up. Two of my former wrestlers, who never had a father present in their life adopted me as their father. They each now have children of their own. And of course, I’m now blessed with the name and title of GRANDPA!
